The MWT-1200 Surface Roughness Tester by Moore & Wright is a portable, hand-held instrument designed for on-site measurement of surface texture, including hard-to-reach internal bores using its external probe. It combines a high-precision inductive sensor with onboard waveform display and extensive data storage for production and inspection environments.

Measurement principle
Measurement is performed by drawing the stylus across the component surface at a controlled speed. Surface height variations change the inductance of the sensor coils; these changes are amplified, digitised and filtered by the device's ARM processor to compute standard roughness parameters. Results and waveform graphs are displayed on the device and can be stored or transferred for further analysis.
