OverviewThe Model 100 is a bench-mounted, manually operated Erichsen cupping machine for evaluating sheet and foil formability using the standardized Erichsen cupping test. It is designed for simple, low-effort operation and is suitable for limited in‑factory testing and thinner materials.
ApplicationThis manually operated tester is intended to assess drawing properties of ferrous and non‑ferrous metals and foils; it is particularly suitable where only limited sheet metal forming tests are required and for thinner materials and foils.
PurposeThe Model 100 provides a quick and simple method to determine the drawing quality of sheet metal to identify the lowest‑cost material suitable for a drawn part. The standardized Erichsen cupping value also indicates surface grain size at the bulge tip and can be used in material specification for purchasing.
DescriptionThe unit is a bench-mounted machine with a cast‑iron body and a cylindrical test head. The specimen or foil is introduced through the opening in the test head, the test head is tightened against a locating sleeve to clamp the blank with the standard blank‑holder force, and the clutch pin is pulled to start the cupping action. The current cupping value is shown on a digital counter. The forming process and crack appearance can be observed from above through the blankholder; in poor light or with small test tools a microscope with battery illumination is recommended.
