Description

General description
The screw batch charger is a continuous feeding system for glass furnaces designed to meter and charge glass batch and cullet with controlled flow rate. The unit improves furnace feeding consistency and integrates with level-control systems to maintain stable glass production.

Installation
Screw batch chargers are mounted in the furnace back wall through a refractory block. The charging mechanism is fixed on a welded steel support frame equipped with four wheels that run on rails for straightforward positioning and removal during maintenance.

Main components
  • Rails
  • Supporting steel profile frame
  • Feeding hopper
  • Screw with special external coating
  • Feed tube
  • Refractory protection at the screw nose
  • Drive system with AC servo / three-phase motor and gearbox

Batch loading
Material is fed into the hopper and gravity-feeds into the feed tube onto the coated steel screw which conveys the batch into the furnace. The screw is driven by a three-phase asynchronous motor with a speed-reducing gearbox. Motor speed is regulated by an inverter on the main control board receiving a 4–20 mA signal from the glass level controller to enable continuous, smooth charging rate adjustment. The drive includes large-diameter conical roller bearings and protections to prevent batch from damaging bearings.

Benefits
  • Improves furnace pulling rate and production consistency
  • Reduces energy consumption through stable feeding
  • Minimizes dust carry-over and furnace pollution
  • Decreases glass level oscillation
  • Helps reduce NOx formation
