Product OverviewThe Pitch Line (PLD) Diaphragm Chuck is a high-precision universal-application diaphragm chuck aimed primarily at gear families. It is designed for hard turning and grinding operations where repeatability, interchangeability and roundness are critical. The design centers on a simple quick-change system: a fixed-length pin locates against the master jaw of the diaphragm and extends the distance to the pitch diameter. The pin is housed in a jaw that orients the unit and contains the Quick Change snap-in-place housing with a retained screw. Replacement of worn pin sets is accomplished by sliding out the old pins and inserting new ones with no adjustment required.
Advantages- Jaw change in 60 seconds
- Accommodates any number of gear teeth
- Compliance for tooth space variation
- Optional synchronizing pins for autoload
- Standard “pull-back” action
- Centrifugal force compensation for higher speeds
- Minimal maintenance - no sliding parts
- Lightweight assembly
Technical Features- Fixed-length gear pins extend from the pitch diameter of the gear to the master jaw diameter of the diaphragm; pins extend through the jaws so interchange accuracy of the jaws is not critical
- 1/2 turn retained screws
- Gear pins are retained firmly in jaws with O-ring (not shown)
- Gear pins are replaced by simply pulling the old pins out and sliding new pins into the jaws; no adjustment required
- Fixed-length gear pins uniform in length within .0002" contact on the pitch diameter (P.D.) of the gear
Applications- Gear families including:
- Sun
- Ring
- Piston
- Output
- Spur
- Helical gears
- Hard turning and grinding applications
