Description

Overview
The Orthopac FMC -15 is an optical distortion detection and control system for textile webs. It detects and logs residual distortions (bow and skew), determines thread/course density and can act as a control unit for external weft straighteners. Equipped with digital scanning and FFT-based processing, the system adapts automatically to different textile structures and provides fast, precise angle determination.

Key functions
  • Detection and logging of residual bow and skew distortions
  • Automatic determination of thread / course density
  • Connection and control of external straightening machines (pulse outputs, support for pull-off rollers, chain differentials and multi-motor drives)
  • Use as universal automatic straightening/control system for various production lines

Product highlights
  • Optimized optics for high-resolution distortion angle measurement
  • Real-time signal processing enabling instantaneous angle computation
  • Optimized back and incident lighting for robust scanning on varied surfaces

Customer benefits
  • Wide scanning spectrum: handles colours, prints, Jacquard patterns, pile and loops
  • Intuitive operation and ergonomic visualization of distortion and logs
  • Automatic adaptation to complex product structures for reliable measurement

Scanning principle
Optical scanning by light–dark modulation with FFT-based analysis for robust detection of weft/course structure and distortion angles.

Area of application
Installed on stenter frames, printing and finishing lines or other web processing equipment to monitor and correct weft distortions and to log quality data in textile production and finishing.

Sensors / Scanning heads (examples)
  • Scanner TK-12 — optoelectronic (reflex/light-dark)
  • Scanner CK-15 — imaging / camera scanning
  • Scanner CTK-15 — camera sensor for carpets and technical textiles
  • Hybrid scanning — combination of imaging (CK) and optoelectronic (TK)

Typical installation & operation
The FMC family is available as a compact bridge (FMC EP) for tight spaces and as a standard bridge (FMC T) with guide rollers. Scanning heads are automatically positioned to fabric width; the system logs distortion values and issues control pulses to straighteners as required. Integration with process control systems coordinates with dwell time, exhaust humidity and residual moisture measurement devices.

Remarks
The system interfaces with Mahlo and third‑party straightening devices and supports modern digital interfaces and processor technology for adaptive control and display.
