Product overviewThe Makino U86 wire EDM is designed for large, heavy workpieces, accommodating parts up to 1,400 × 987 mm (55.1" × 38.8") and weights up to 3,000 kg (6,614 lbs). It combines large travel and tank capacity with the precision and process control of Makino’s smaller EDM models. The stationary work table reduces variables from workpiece and dielectric movement to improve machining accuracy. The integrated dielectric reservoir in the base casting reduces footprint and enhances thermal stability.
Key features- Stationary work table design to eliminate workpiece and dielectric weight-shift variables for improved accuracy.
- Integrated dielectric reservoir in the base casting for a reduced footprint and better thermal stability.
- 3-sided rise & fall work tank for unrestricted access to the work zone, easing loading/unloading and maintenance.
- Standard Z-stroke 520 mm (20.47") with optional extended 620 mm (24.41"); both configurations provide full usable stroke with no dead zones.
- Capacity for very large and heavy workpieces (confirm exact limits per configuration).
Control & operator interfaceThe U86 uses Makino's Hyper i control with a 24" class HD wide touch screen supporting pinch/swipe/drag. The control offers a clear Program/Setup/Run workflow, an advanced Handbox, on-board electronic manuals, training videos and the E‑Tech Doctor diagnostic/help function to support operators and productivity.
Performance & technology- Standard H.E.A.T. (High Energy Applied Technology) for higher machining speed and stable accuracy in difficult flushing conditions; employs two independent CNC-controlled flush pumps for high pressure and volume.
- Split-V Wire Guide system for extended guide life and reduced maintenance; supports reliable automatic wire threading at full Z-stroke height.
- Machining condition settings optimized to balance speed, accuracy, surface finish and low wire consumption to lower operating costs.
Accessibility & serviceabilityErgonomic design with a rise & fall three-sided tank for easier loading/unloading of large parts and simplified maintenance access.
Related technologiesThe U86 integrates Makino developments in control ergonomics (Hyper i), H.E.A.T. flushing technology, Split‑V wire guiding and on-board operator resources (manuals, videos, E‑Tech Doctor).
