OverviewThe UPV-5 wire EDM machine provides ultra-precision machining with oil-based dielectric to control discharge energy, enabling low-power cutting and surface finishes down to 0.02 µm Ra (1 µin Ra). The oil dielectric is chemically neutral (no oxidation), protects synthetic materials such as PCD and carbide, and reduces metallurgical impact (reduced HAZ and recast) versus water-based dielectrics.
Design and applicationsBuilt on Makino’s Uj-Series platform with a stationary table and tight construction tolerances, the UPV-5 includes a 3-sided rise-and-fall work tank for easy access and automated loading. It is intended for ultra-precision applications including fine-blanking and precision stamping die components, and can be configured for cutting tool insert manufacturing with optional integrated 3D setup probe and rotary table.
Control and operator featuresStandard with Makino’s Hyper i control on a 24" class HD touchscreen with smartphone/tablet pinch/swipe/drag functionality and an advanced handbox. Hyper i includes on-board electronic manuals, E-Tech Doctor diagnostics, and video training tutorials. The UPV-5 ships standard with integrated safety equipment including a fire suppression system for extended unattended operation.
