OverviewNexen Group rotary brakes combine a hub/shaft assembly with an integral friction disc and facing for simplified installation. Available in spring-engaged (power-off holding) or air-engaged (air released) variants, they support shaft, flange or foot mounting and can be supplied open or enclosed depending on the model. These brakes are specified for holding, stopping, controlled deceleration and tension control across a wide torque spectrum.
Key features- Hub/shaft with integral friction disc and facing for straightforward mounting
- Engagement: spring-engaged (power-off) or air-engaged (air released)
- Mounting styles: shaft, flange, foot, motor/reducer mount
- Housing options: open or enclosed; optional guards for selected models
- Variants for high-cycle dynamic applications and for emergency/non-cyclic holding
- Hub bore options: keyed, tapered for QD bushings, clamp collars, or through bores
Product groups / typical model families (examples)- SSE series — shaft-mount brakes for power-off holding and high-cycle dynamic use (examples up to ~904 Nm)
- TSE series — shaft-mount family with similar torque and mounting flexibility to SSE
- SE series — motor-mounted brakes for NEMA C-Face motors (motor-mounted variants)
- Additional families (EMB, MB, MBU, FMBES, FMBS, DPB, ZSE, DFB, QFB, etc.) — cover motor brakes, flange/housing-mounted brakes and higher torque classes
Applications- Precise positioning and static holding
- Controlled deceleration and emergency stopping
- Cycling, indexing and high-cycle machinery
- Unwind and tension control in web-processing, converting and printing
- General power-transmission and motor-mounted brake applications

Comparison examples (representative lines)- Models: SSE | TSE | SE — Max static torque: SSE/TSE up to ~904 Nm (8,000 in-lb) | SE up to ~226 Nm (2,000 in-lb)
- Purpose: SSE/TSE — shaft-mount, power-off holding, high-cycle dynamic | SE — motor brake for NEMA C-Face, non-cyclic/emergency holding
- Hub bore examples: SSE 20–100 mm | TSE 14–100 mm | SE 16–35 mm (examples vary by model)
- High-torque families (DFB/QFB/DPB) reach substantially higher Nm for flange-mounted heavy-duty applications
Required components & common accessories- Control: 3-way valves, filters, regulators, flow controls and mufflers for pneumatic units
- Accessories: motor brake adapters, torque arms/pins/brackets, guards, clamp collars, QD bushings, mounting adapters
- Tension accessories: dancer controllers, diameter-based or load-cell tension control systems
Notes- Many families offer multiple hub-bore and mounting options to suit different installation standards and motor frames.
- Certain motor-mounted variants are designed for NEMA C-Face motors and include flange pilots or foot-mount accessories.
- Select models are optimized for continuous high-cycle slipping (clutch-with-brake adapter solutions); others are intended for emergency/non-cyclic holding.
Technical specifications (high-level)- Engagement methods: spring-engaged (power-off) and air-engaged (air released)
- Mounting: shaft, flange, foot, motor or reducer mount
- Torque range (typical examples): ~11 Nm up to >18,000 Nm depending on family
- Hub options: keyed through-bore, tapered bores for QD bushings, clamp collars
- Housing: open or enclosed; many open housings offer optional guards
