Consisting of two mirrors and two semi-reflective lenses, the Mach-Zehnder configuration is the common form of two-wave interferometers, of which the Michelson interferometer is a variant. Although less sensitive than the Michelson, the Mach-Zehnder has the advantage of not sending a signal back to the source and not causing instability at the source level.
