The Fabry-Pérot is an optical interferometer that has the advantage of having a much higher finesse than other interferometers, especially compared to a Michelson interferometer which only has a finesse of 2. This allows for a much more precise measurement of wavelengths and a resolution high enough to separate very close lines such as the Sodium doublet.
