Custom High Precision Nested Wave Springs with Shim Ends
Description:
A wave spring, also known as a coiled wave washer spring or scrowave spring, is made from pre-hardened flat wire using on-edge coiling (edge-winding). Waves are added to provide a spring effect.
Multi-turn wave springs are used for applications requiring tight load-deflection specifications where axial space is critical.
Capabilities: spring thickness from 0.15 mm to 0.7 mm (0.006" to 0.0276"); spring outside diameter from 12 mm to 60 mm (0.472" to 2.36").
Spring wave washer anti-loose principle
After being flattened, the wave washer generates a continuous elastic force that maintains friction between the nut and the bolt, producing a resistance torque to prevent the nut from loosening.
The sharp edges at the washer opening embed slightly into the bolt and the mating surface to reduce relative rotation and enhance anti-loosening performance.
Main functions: protect the surface of the connector, prevent scratching during tightening, and provide maintained preload to resist vibration-induced loosening.
Difference between flat washers and spring wave washers
Wave spring washers provide elastic preload and anti-loosening due to their spring action; their force is relatively small and uniform, minimizing damage to mating surfaces.
Flat washers increase contact area and reduce bearing pressure but do not provide anti-loosening or shock absorption.
Use flat washers to increase contact area where component strength is low; use wave washers where vibration, pulses or large temperature fluctuations require maintained preload.
