Characteristics

Product applications
for heavy handling equipment, for materials handlers, for trucks, for material handling equipment, for excavators, for waste

Description

Overview
Mounting an orange peel grapple increases scrap loading speed by over three times compared to standard buckets. The attachment uses 4 or 5 independent hydraulic tines to wrap around varied scrap steel and waste, providing a tight multi‑tine grip that shortens loading times and reduces handling costs per ton.

How it works
An orange peel grapple employs multiple hydraulic tines (4 or 5) that close around material. Operators match carrier tonnage, jaw capacity (m³), working pressure (bar), working flow (lpm), and maximum open width (mm) to the grapple model and jobsite application. Recommended 360‑degree rotator drives speed alignment of the jaws over receiving trucks without rotating the machine body.

Applications
  • Scrap Metal Yards and Recycling Plants: grips pig iron, scrap rebar and compressed bales for dense truck loading.
  • Waste Processing and Incineration Plants: handles bulk municipal solid waste and clears deep bunker pits.
  • Demolition Sites and Construction Cleanup: clears mixed concrete slabs, timber and scrap steel beams.
  • Site Clearance Teamwork: used with magnets, augers, hydraulic sand pumps and plate compactors in multi‑tool site workflows.

Operator tips
Choose a 360‑degree hydraulic rotator drive to align jaws quickly. Check tine pivot pins weekly and add heavy‑duty grease regularly to extend pin and bushing service life. Use grapples with built‑in cylinder guards and relief valves on the hydraulic circuit to protect seals during heavy gripping.

Selection guidance
Match grapple capacity (m³), excavator tonnage and working flow/pressure: smaller models (0.3–0.5 m³) for 6–17 t carriers with 200–260 bar and lower flows; larger models (0.8–1.0 m³) for 18–25 t carriers with up to 320 bar and higher flows. Select 4‑tine jaws for bulky items and 5‑tine jaws when needing to retain small or loose debris.

Frequently asked points
  • 4‑tine vs 5‑tine: 4‑tine opens wider for bulky scrap; 5‑tine closes tighter to retain small chips and turnings.
  • Tine types: open tines for large pieces, semi‑closed for general purpose, closed for fine debris.
  • Protecting cylinders: select cylinder guards and run relief valves to prevent seal damage.
