A DIN rail power supply is an AC-DC converter which supplies regulated direct voltage to electrical equipment or an automaton.
These devices are found in home and industrial automation electrical panels.
Switched mode technology is used to optimize efficiency, reduce component heating and for its compactness. Heat is removed by natural or fan-assisted convection. The power supply rectifies highly variable input voltages, sometimes referred to as universal.
The converter maintains stable output voltage regardless of load. An energy reservoir can furnish significant peak current when electrical machinery is started. The supply is protected against sustained short circuits; input and output generally are galvanically isolated.
The device can have several voltage outputs, which may be regulated over a certain range. It usually has an LED indicator. Some models are designed to be wired in parallel.
Choice will depend on the range of adjustable output voltage, output power or nominal current, current limits and direct voltage ripple factor. A power supply is designed for operation within a specified temperature range.
