TOC is used in a variety of applications from management of waste professional water treatment plant influent and effluent, to drinking water supply management and monitoring of impurities in process and natural waters. And the range of applications in which this type of on-line technology is used is expected to continue expanding.
In addition, because nitrogen is considered to be one of the factors which contributes to the over-proliferation of organisms in enclosed bodies of water, management of these public water sources and of treatment plant influent and effluent also includes demand for monitoring of nitrogen professional levels.

CheckPoint TOC Sensor
The new CheckPoint Total Organic Carbon (TOC) Portable/On-Line Sensor from GE Analytical Instruments is the first and only battery-powered TOC measuring device. CheckPoint can easily be hand carried to any point in a water system for rapid diagnostic sampling and troubleshooting, or used on-line for continuous monitoring. It is designed for microelectronics, pharmaceutical, and power applications.
CheckPoint’s ultra portability, fast analysis time, and versatility enable new problem-solving and diagnostic capabilities at points of use away from power sources. The Sensor typically operates four to five hours using the optional battery, or continuously with AC power. It weighs just 3.6 kg (7.9 lb), and features a 15-second default measurement, adjustable in intervals up to eight hours.
The CheckPoint TOC Sensor has a dynamic range of 0.05 to 1,000 ppb, and can measure TOC in water with up to 1.4 uS/cm conductivity from CO2. CheckPoint also measures conductivity/resistivity and temperature. CheckPoint features an Ethernet (Modbus over TCP/IP) and a USB port for convenient data download. CheckPoint requires no reagents, and is easy to operate and maintain. Calibration is typically stable for six months. |

The new Sievers InnovOx Laboratory Total Organic Carbon (TOC) Professional analyzer can run thousands of diverse, high-TOC samples—including brine and cellulose—with unprecedented uptime. The Sievers InnovOx offers unmatched oxidation robustness, dynamic linear working range, and calibration curve stability for industrial process, wastewater and environmental water samples. It is compliant with EPA, Standards Methods and ASTM regulatory methods.
The tough and reliable Sievers InnovOx uses a patent-pending Super Critical Water Oxidation (SCWO) technique to achieve superior TOC recoveries regardless of organic compounds and particulate impurities in the sample. In addition, this new process removes all oxidation byproducts and sample between each analytical run, eliminating the need for frequent maintenance.
The Analyzer uses an enhanced Non Dispersive Infra Red (NDIR) design, which has no moving parts, to allow superior linear response. The NDIR has a dynamic detection range of 0.5 to 50,000 ppm, and is capable of measuring Total Carbon (TC), Total Inorganic Carbon (TIC), Total Organic Carbon (TOC), and Non-Purgeable Organic Carbon (NPOC.
The Sievers InnovOx has a Web interface for easy, remote monitoring, an intuitive touch-screen display, and three convenient USB ports. The InnovOx is easy to set up and operate and requires no external carrier gas. The InnovOx is ready to run immediately, as it needs no prior professional furnace heat-up or stabilization. Maintenance is minimal, keeping total cost of ownership low. Preventive maintenance and calibration are only needed every 6 months. |
