Description

Overview
GASTEC detector tubes are single-use glass tubes containing a chemical reagent that provides a colorimetric on-site measurement for a single gas. Available for over 500 specific gases and vapours, they offer an intrinsically safe, low-maintenance method for hazard analysis and leak detection in industrial environments.

Who uses detector tubes
Industrial hygienists, health and safety officers, environmental officers, laboratory technicians and chemical engineers use detector tubes for workplace hazard assessments, monitoring of hazardous gases and leak investigations.

How they work
The reagent-filled glass tube changes colour when exposed to the target gas. The length of the colour stain after sampling is proportional to the gas concentration and is read directly on the tube to obtain an on-site result.

Features and benefits
  • Intrinsic safety: passive chemical detection suitable for hazardous atmospheres
  • No electrical power or calibration required for tubes
  • Lower initial cost versus many electronic detectors for occasional or intermittent measurements
  • Wide range: ability to test individual VOCs and numerous other gases using specific tubes

Accessories
  • GASTEC sampling pumps for controlled air draws (compatible with standard tubes)
  • Tube holders to secure tubes to clothing
  • Tube tip breakers for safe opening and disposal
  • Application handbook and tube datasheets

Main applications
  • Petrochemical industry
  • Marine and offshore
  • Chemical plants

Common gases covered
Available tubes include, among others, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulphide, ammonia, chlorine, formaldehyde and various VOCs.

Operation and accuracy notes
  • Correction factors: consult each tube's datasheet for factors to compensate interferences (temperature, pressure, humidity, cross-gases)
  • Time to result: typical readings are available within a few minutes after sampling
  • Packaging: most packs contain 10 single-use tubes; tubes are single-use and cannot be reset

Downloads
Instruction manuals, pump manuals and tube datasheets are available for download from product resources.
