OverviewThe Nomogram Disk Model 458 is a handheld conversion tool for translating viscosity measurement data between multiple unit systems and for adjusting values across reference temperatures. It integrates a viscosity nomogram and a temperature-dependent viscosity scale on a double-sided disk for direct, side-by-side comparison.
Conversion capabilitiesThe VISCOSITY NOMOGRAM converts viscosity data at reference temperatures between 15 °C and 25 °C into the following units:
- cSt = mm²·s⁻¹
- cP = mPa·s
- Engler degrees
- Krebs-Stormer units
- Gardner-Holdt units
- Efflux times
- ISO 2431 (4 mm)
- ASTM D 1200 (Ford No. 3, No. 4)
- DIN 53 211
Temperature-dependent conversionThe TEMPERATURE-DEPENDENT VISCOSITY SCALE converts viscosity data for reference temperatures between 5 °C and 30 °C. Conversion is performed by reading adjacent scales rotated in opposite directions (slide-rule principle) and is based on a temperature coefficient of 5.5 %/°C.
Design and functionThe two nomograms are combined on one disk that can be used from both sides. Direct comparison between different viscosity units is obtained via a simple indicator reading. Conversion between kinematic (cSt = mm²·s⁻¹) and dynamic (cP = mPa·s) units requires specification of liquid density in the range 0.7–1.5 g/cm³. Use of the nomograms assumes the tested liquids exhibit approximately Newtonian behaviour.
