Description

Product summary
The 5790B AC Measurement and Transfer Standard is a precision, multi-purpose instrument for demanding calibration tasks. It combines thermal-conversion measurement accuracy with a modern capacitive touch interface and supports absolute and relative AC/DC voltage and current measurements, plus wideband and RF power reference capabilities when fitted with the appropriate options.

Key features
  • Multi-purpose AC measurement and transfer standard for absolute and relative measurements.
  • Absolute AC voltage uncertainty down to ±24 ppm (1 year, 23 °C ±5 °C).
  • AC voltage range 600 µV to 1000 V; standard frequency range 10 Hz to 1 MHz; optional wideband /3 (to 30 MHz) and /5 (to 50 MHz).
  • Compatibility with Fluke A40B current shunts for direct absolute or relative current measurement; up to 150 shunts storable with serial numbers and calibration constants.
  • 6.5-inch full-color capacitive touchscreen display and direct-readout graphical UI.
  • Multiple inputs (Type-N and five-way binding posts), autoranging with manual range-lock, and 1200 V input protection.

Absolute and relative current measurement
Used with Fluke A40B series shunts, the 5790B performs direct absolute or relative AC current measurements without manual calculations. Shunt data (serial number, calibration constants, dates) can be stored and selected from the instrument memory for rapid setup and repeatable measurements.

Wideband and RF options
The instrument supports legacy /3 wideband (10 Hz–30 MHz) and the /5 option (10 Hz–50 MHz) for RF reference output calibration. A dedicated 50 Ω, 225 mV input option is available for RF power reference measurements and calibrated-cable configurations (5790B/AF) provide specified accuracy to the cable end.

Measurement, display and statistics
  • Direct-readout mode shows measurement, sample count, standard deviation, mean, min/max and supports peak-to-peak calculations (assumes THD < 1%).
  • Thermal RMS sensor and hermetically sealed thin-film resistor networks minimize AC measurement errors and improve stability.
  • Trigger keys for single or continuous sampling and full remote-control support for automated measurements.

Interface and ergonomics
Clear touchscreen menus, Visual Connection Management™ LEDs on front terminals to indicate active connections, front-panel hard keys for range/input selection and a visible DANGER VOLTAGE indicator for operator safety.

Integration and automation
Standard remote interfaces include USB, GPIB/IEEE-488, Ethernet and RS-232. Full PC control and driver support enable integration into automated calibration systems (e.g., MET/CAL® compatible workflows).
