Safety- Do not over tighten mounting hardware or plumbing fittings.
- When installing a collet, avoid over tightening the collet against the piston taper.
- Do not exceed the maximum operating pressures: 250 psi air or 1207 psi hydraulic (17 bar air; 83 bar hydraulic) for safe operation.
- Ensure the collet securely retains the workpiece before actuating the closer.
ApplicationThis 16C dead-length collet block is a stationary, double-acting unit designed for machine and assembly operations requiring reliable clamping and unclamping. It can be used as a single closer or mounted in multiples on rotary tables, pallets, fixtures or tombstones to increase throughput.
Installation- 1. Mount the collet block to a rigid, flat surface.
- 2. Plumb the first supply line using 5000 psi (344 bar) rated steel tubing to the CLAMP 1/4 NPTF port and the normally OPEN port of the control valve.
- 3. Plumb the second supply line using 5000 psi (344 bar) rated steel tubing to the UNCLAMP 1/4 NPTF port and the normally CLOSED port of the control valve.
- 4. Connect control supply to the 1/4 NPTF pressure port of the valve.
- 5. This configuration holds the collet closed until the valve is actuated.
Operation- 1. Remove supply from the valve before inserting a collet.
- 2. Loosen the collet locking screw.
- 3. Insert the collet into the top of the collet block.
- 4. Using the collet wrench, turn the collet clockwise until it contacts the piston taper.
- 5. Tighten the collet locking screw—do not overtighten.
- 6. To clamp, insert the workpiece into the collet and apply supply pressure to the control valve. WARNING: Do not actuate the closer without a workpiece in the collet.
- 7. Adjust supply pressure to the minimum level that ensures effective workholding; continuous operation at maximum pressure reduces seal and collet life.
- 8. To release the part, actuate the valve to the unclamp position.
MaintenanceIf clamping force decreases while system pressure remains unchanged, remove the collet block from service, disassemble and replace any damaged or worn O-rings.
