Overview
The Makino EDNC17 is a sinker EDM machine designed to handle large die and mold workpieces with extended X/Y strokes and a generous work tank area. The unit combines a stationary work table and an integrated dielectric reservoir in the base casting to reduce footprint and improve thermal stability for consistent accuracy. A 4-sided programmable rise & fall work tank provides excellent access for loading/unloading large parts and reduces automation requirements. The machine accommodates parts up to 10,000 kg or as large as 2,500 × 1,600 mm.

Z-Axis, ATC and Work Performance
The EDNC17 uses Makino’s HS-Rib high-speed Z-Axis with jump speeds to 20 m/min and 1.0G acceleration, suitable for rib electrode machining and capable of significantly reducing cycle times. The Z-axis includes a core-cooled ball screw with a dedicated closed-loop chiller to maintain depth-control accuracy across the full 800 mm travel. Automatic tool change (ATC) options are available (8, 16, 32) and are mounted external to the work tank to avoid limiting stroke or processing capability.

Control and Generator Technologies
Configured with SuperSpark IV and HyperCut generator technologies and Makino’s Hyper-i control, the EDNC17 features a graphical interface on a large 24"-class hi-definition touchscreen with intuitive, smart-device-like operation. On-machine support includes EDM Assist digital manuals and video tutorials plus the E-Tech Doctor function for graphical tuning of machining conditions.
