Description

Product overview
The PTFE-coated fiberglass cover fiberglass rope core tadpole gasket is a bulb-and-tail profile sealing element for doors, oven covers, dampers, ducts, panel joints and equipment exposed to thermal cycling or chemical environments. The compressible bulb forms the sealing interface while the tail provides a secure mounting area.

Construction
The gasket combines a PTFE-coated woven fiberglass outer cover with a resilient fiberglass rope core. The PTFE-coated cover offers a smooth, chemically resistant surface; the fiberglass rope core provides compressibility, recovery and profile support.

Component / Function
  • PTFE-coated fiberglass cover - Outer protective surface with broad chemical resistance and a flexible textile structure.
  • Fiberglass rope core - Internal resilient core that forms the sealing bulb and allows controlled compression and recovery.
  • Sealing bulb - Compressible element that contacts the mating surface to create the primary seal.
  • Mounting tail - Attachment area for mechanical fasteners, retaining channels or clips.

Why use a PTFE coated fiberglass cover?
  • PTFE-coated woven fiberglass construction for chemical resistance
  • Flexible textile structure suitable for uneven surfaces
  • Durable under repeated thermal cycling
  • Resistant to moisture and environmental exposure
  • Non-metallic sealing surface where metal is unsuitable
  • Applicable to selected low-temperature and cryogenic services when specified

Fiberglass core for flexible compression
The fiberglass rope core creates the rounded sealing profile that deforms to fill gaps while maintaining lightweight profile support. Core density is selected to balance compressibility and recovery.

Designed for thermal cycling and uneven surfaces
The combination of PTFE-coated cover and fiberglass core allows conformity to minor irregularities and repeated heating/cooling cycles. Correct compression is critical to ensure continuous sealing without permanent core damage.

Temperature capability
Typical operating range for this construction is approximately -100°F to +500°F (-73°C to +260°C). Actual allowable temperatures depend on coating type, core density, installed compression and service conditions.

Chemical resistance
PTFE provides a broadly chemically resistant surface suitable for many industrial fluids. Verify compatibility with the specific media, concentration and temperature for your application.

Applications
  • Industrial oven doors and covers
  • Damper and actuator sealing
  • Thermal and process duct connections
  • Panel joints and equipment enclosures
  • Access doors and removable covers
  • Cryogenic and selected low-temperature equipment
  • Powder coating and thermal processing equipment
  • OEM thermal sealing systems and automotive thermal equipment

Custom tadpole gasket profiles
Profiles and dimensions can be customized to installation space, compression distance and equipment geometry. Options include bulb diameter, tail width, overall length, profile shape, core density and PTFE coating construction.

Available custom features
  • Bulb diameter - Customized to sealing and compression needs
  • Tail width - Adaptable for mounting area
  • Gasket length - Supplied to equipment dimensions
  • Profile geometry - Custom shapes for OEM requirements
  • Fiberglass core density - Selected for desired compressibility and resilience
  • PTFE coating construction - Chosen for surface characteristics and chemical exposure

Installation and compression
Install so the sealing bulb contacts the mating surface continuously. Secure the mounting tail per equipment design (fasteners, channels, clips). Avoid excessive compression to prevent permanent crushing of the fiberglass core.
