Description

Overview
Aluminized fiberglass tadpole gasket provides a flexible bulb-and-tail thermal seal for oven doors, heating equipment, thermal enclosures, access panels and industrial equipment exposed to high temperatures and radiant heat.

Construction
The gasket features a woven aluminized fiberglass outer cover and a flexible internal core. The reflective aluminized surface redirects radiant heat while the core supplies shape, resilience and compressibility for the tadpole sealing profile.

Gasket components
  • Aluminized fiberglass cover: Exposed thermal protection layer that reflects radiant heat.
  • Internal core: Provides the body, resilience and compressibility of the tadpole profile.
  • Sealing bulb: Compresses against the mating surface to form the primary thermal seal.
  • Mounting tail: Dedicated section for attachment to doors, frames or panels.

Core construction options
  • Galvanized wire core: Internal reinforcement for added structural stability and profile support.
  • Hollow core: Lightweight, highly flexible core for easy compression and surface conformity.

Compression sealing with a tadpole profile
  • Mounting: Install the tail along the door, frame, panel or equipment perimeter.
  • Positioning: Align the bulb with the mating sealing surface.
  • Compression: Closing the door or panel compresses the bulb to create the seal.
  • Conformability: The flexible profile follows minor variations in the mating surface.
  • Thermal separation: The compressed gasket forms a thermal barrier around the opening or joint.

Thermal performance
Typical aluminized fiberglass constructions are specified for service up to approximately 500°F / 260°C depending on fabric, aluminized coating, core material, gasket geometry and operating conditions. Final rating must be confirmed for each application.

Thermal shock and repeated heating cycles
The flexible fiberglass cover and appropriate core selection accommodate repeated thermal cycling better than many rigid seals; core type influences compression recovery and long-term behavior.

Applications
  • Industrial oven doors
  • Commercial oven and stove door seals
  • Heating equipment doors and access panels
  • Thermal enclosures and chamber access panels
  • Metal processing and casting equipment
  • Thermal barrier assemblies and OEM thermal equipment
  • Replacement thermal gaskets

Custom manufacturing
Custom bulb diameters, tail dimensions, overall lengths, core constructions and profile geometries can be produced to match OEM equipment or replacement requirements. Drawings, samples and application data are used for development.

Installation considerations
Correct installation affects sealing performance. Secure the tail to prevent excessive movement or twisting. Ensure the bulb is aligned with the mating surface and avoid excessive compression; provide adequate clearance to allow deformation while maintaining continuous contact.

How to specify
  • Required bulb diameter
  • Tail width and thickness
  • Overall gasket length
  • Door or panel dimensions
  • Available compression gap
  • Operating temperature
  • Radiant heat exposure
  • Thermal cycling frequency
  • Required core construction
  • Mounting method
  • Contact chemicals or process media
  • Existing gasket sample or drawing

Frequently asked product points
  • An aluminized fiberglass tadpole gasket is a bulb-and-tail thermal seal with a woven aluminized outer cover and an internal core for compressible sealing.
  • The aluminized coating reflects radiant heat and protects the exposed surface near hot components.
  • Service temperature reference is typically up to about 500°F / 260°C but depends on construction and service conditions.
  • Galvanized wire core provides reinforcement and profile support; hollow core provides lightweight, highly compressible behavior.
