Floating ball valves are the most common type of ball valve used to cut off flow in pipes. They are quarter-turn valves. The ball is perforated, so when the valve is open, it lets the fluid pass and when it is closed the hole is covered and the fluid does not circulate. Floating ball valves can provide a seal in both directions, which is why they are used in the oil, gas, water, and other industries.
