- High discharge current capability: current measurement via probe up to 100 A (150 A monitoring for multiple currents).
- Sample flexibility: customizable sample holder suitable for thin films, thick films and ceramics.
- Data acquisition: waveform capture with oscilloscope and direct calculation of energy storage density.
- Signal source function: arbitrary waveform generation supported.
- Variable-temperature testing: room temperature up to 250℃ capability; module control range 0–200℃.
- Polarized material testing: compatible with polarization equipment for piezoelectric and dielectric samples.
- Low parasitic capacitance and fast switching: high-voltage single-pole double-throw switch rated up to 10 kV with low parasitics.
- Two discharge modes: under-damped (short-circuited discharge) and over-damped (precision non-inductive resistor load).
- Fatigue testing support: automated cyclic testing available.
- Operating range: typical voltages up to 10 kV and currents in the mA range where applicable.
Test circuit and operationThe system uses a dedicated capacitor discharge circuit. A dielectric sample is charged to the target voltage, then the stored energy is released to a resistive load by closing a high-speed MOS high-voltage switch. The time-dependent voltage/current on the sample during discharge is recorded by an acquisition device (oscilloscope) and used to compute discharge energy density and related metrics. Changing the load resistance alters the discharge speed (RC behavior); multiple resistors or resistor networks can be selected to achieve required discharge rates. For high-kV tests, samples are typically immersed in silicone oil.
