The right angle gear motor has an output shaft perpendicular to the input shaft. It combines a motor and gearing in a pre-assembled package. Any type of motor and gearing may be used, though worm and bevel gearing types have the advantage of being designed with perpendicular shafts.
Right angle gear motors are used wherever it is important to have perpendicular input and output shafts.
A right angle gear motor can use AC, DC, brushless, synchronous, asynchronous, step-by-step, permanent-magnet or other types of motor. The gear elements may be worm, bevel, helical, planetary, etc. However, worm and bevel models are favored, since planetary gear motors are inherently coaxial and would need a transfer gear for right-angle operation.
