...disturbance insensitive and long-lived!
The turbine flow sensors of the product line Turbotron are sensors for flow rate measurement or dosing applications for liquids. Through its especially compact type, its very wide measuring range and its convincing precision of measurement, it has an almost unlimited application.
Function
The liquid flowing into the Turbotron is divided by the guiding blades in four split beams. These hit the rotor from four directions and put it in motion. The uniform loading of bearing from four sides causes the forces to cancel themselves out for the most part and wear is reduced to a minimum.
The extremely hard bearing materials, sapphire and hard metal, ensure in addition an extraordinary life expectancy.
The rotor rotation rate is now converted into an electrical pulse signal (frequency):
VTH and VTP are equipped with rotors which are fitted with magnets. A Hall effect sensor recognizes the rotation of the rotor.
VTI has stainless steel pins in the rotor. An inductive proximity switch detects the rotor rotation.
In both cases, a flow-proportional frequency signal (square wave signal) is available.

Derived from the FSC Series, the F2000 Quad
Series of fl ow sensors utilizes two fl ow transducers
which are 90-degrees electrically out of phase
from each other. With the addition of a second
fl ow transducer, it is possible to monitor fl ow in
both directions. The F2000 Quad is suitable for
up-down counters that can discern the leading
and trailing edges of the quadrature signals.
Current applications include using the F2000 as
a speed-sensing device on mobile equipment.
This bi-directional fl ow sensor can be used as
a governor, sending frequency signals back to
a PLC which enable it to make the necessary
adjustments. Other functions of the fl ow sensor are
in linear applications where accurate positioning
is required.

The flowmeter pickup coil senses
the motion of the rotor and converts it
to a pulsing electrical signal which is
of a discrete digital nature. Three
basic pickup types are offered for use
with the MF Series which will satisfy
standard electrical interface
requirements for turbine flowmeters.

Litre Meter developed the Pelton wheel principle as the best to achieve accurate measurements of low flows.
A single turbine ring size is common to all Litre Meter flowmeters. The turbine rotor is based on a highly efficient 'Pelton Wheel' design. It is available in various chemically resistant materials such as PFA (Teflon)and PVDF. The rotor ferrites are sealed to make them non-wetted parts. Sapphire bearings are offered for maximum chemical resistance as standard. These provide a very low friction mechanically-robust bearing with long life characteristics.
The rotation of the rotor is sensed by an electronic system using the interaction of ferrites in the rotor tips with a pickup coil. No drag is imposed on the rotor which assists in the measurement of extremely low flows. This, coupled with the efficient Pelton Wheel design and low friction bearings gives the meter major advantages. The complete turbine ring assembly can be easily removed with the meter remaining in line if cleaning is required.

Hoffer inline turbine flowmeters are
velocity measuring devices, which is
to say they measure the average
velocity of a fluid flowing through
the body of the meter. See

Turbine flow meters are mediate volume transmitters similar to a Woltmann's sailwheel meter. Thanks to extremely rapid response times and high resolution turbine flow meters are perfectly suitable for fast filling systems.
Due to an enormous pressure and temperature resistance turbine flow meters will also be the perfect choice for water torch systems, temperature control units, cooling circuits or painting systems, where the consumption of solvents and di-water needs to be measured.

The Litre Meter pelton wheel flowmeter was first patented in 1975 and has an established reputation for function and reliability. Flows from 0.004 l/min can be metered up to 28 l/min using our LM series range. Large flowmeters are provided utilising the orifice/bypass principle where a wide flow range is given and the ability to measure low flows is retained. Pelton Wheel flowmeters are suitable for low viscosity clean fluids with variants in all- PFA Teflon for maximum chemical resistance and high pressure types to 2000 bar at the other end of the spectrum.

What is a PV Meter?
A 'PV Meter' is a flow meter that will HANDLE PROBLEM FLUIDS that damage other meters. The Oilgear PV Meter (Proportional Velocity) will pass sand, grit, stones (up to 0.25" diameter in our smallest meter), bits of wood or rubber, and suspensions that could stop and damage other meters. There are no close clearances, no rotating seals, and no stuffing boxes. This simple design provides little that can go wrong. If something should malfunction, there is a simple field fix without having to remove the meter from the line.
Here's how it works:
The Oilgear PV Meter looks like a short section of pipe, with a rotor and rotor chamber offset and perpendicular to the flow axis. The flow stream, combining the effects of a Pelton wheel and a centrifugal flow turbine drives the rotor. This combination gives a rotor speed PROPORTIONAL to the flow VELOCITY passing through the rotor chamber, over a wide range of flow rates. The combination gives the same performance and small size of a typical axial flow turbine meter, but with the lower speed and higher torque of a typical positive displacement meter.
