Electromagnetic flow meters are used to measure the flow rate of electrically conductive liquids, even those that are highly loaded or abrasive. The conductive media flows through a magnetic field, a voltage proportional to the flow rate is induced in an electrode as the media passes through, allowing the flow rate to be calculated very accurately. These flow meters are particularly resistant and will allow you to obtain measurements in difficult environments. ...

An electromagnetic flow meter can measure the flow volume of electrically conductive liquids such as water, pulp, slurries and emulsions.

Applications

The proper operation of such devices requires a conductivity level of at least three microsiemens (µS) per centimeter. Lack of moving parts makes these meters ideal for use with dirty liquids, including waste water.

Technologies

Function is based on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. The liquid must flow through a pipe made of or lined with a non-magnetic material. The magnetic field applied from the exterior of the conduit induces a voltage across electrodes placed perpendicular to the field and fluid flow. The voltage is proportional to flow velocity.
