Sodium analyzer ABB Instrumentation Analysis
Extensive on-line chemical monitoring of both the water/steam cycle and the water treatment plant on modern power stations enables careful control of the water chemistry to achieve peak efficiency and minimise downtime due to excessive boiler corrosion or scaling. Sodium is one of the most important parameters to be measured on boiler plant. To aid in this, ABB provides monitoring systems for the effective and reliable measurement and control of sodium.
The 8036 uses an ion-selective electrode and reference electrode to measure the sodium ion concentration in demineralization plants and in the steam/water cycle of steam-raising plants. 8036 is an advanced monitor requiring very little maintenance and measures sodium ion concentrations within the ranges 0.01µg kg–1 to 10mg kg–1.
An integral heat exchanger equalises sample and calibration solution temperatures, reducing calibration times and increasing accuracy. On initiating calibration, the monitor automatically introduces calibration solution, makes adjustments and returns the monitor to sample mode; no further action is required. The auto-ranging facility provides outstanding discrimination yet gives wide application coverage, e.g. 0.5 µg kg–1 operation, 10 µg kg–1 alarm, 300 µg kg–1 shut-down. Contacts provide a remote indication of the range.
