Overview
The K HAND COATER 620 is a manual spiral film applicator for applying defined wet films onto various substrates for product evaluation and quality control. It supports side-by-side film application for reliable colour and property comparisons in R&D and production.
Design
K-rods have a steel core wrapped with special stainless steel wire; different wire cross-sections deliver precise wet film thicknesses. Handles are colour-coded and numbered. Short rods suit mounting widths of approx. 11 cm. A reference table lists K-bar numbers, handle colours and corresponding wet film thicknesses.
Handling
Fix the substrate in the impression bed clamp and apply the coating material a short distance ahead of the clamp. Grasp the selected K-rod with both hands and, starting above the material (without rolling), pull it at a steady speed over the impression bed. Clean K-bars after each use with a lint-free cloth and store in the solvent container.
Notes
The impression bed has a synthetic rubber surface (fixed hardness) with a clamp for substrate fixation; impression beds for long K-bars are available in 11 x 22 cm width. Suitable substrates include paper, fibreboard, cellulose and other plastic films, metal foils and plates, glass, wood, textiles, leather, linoleum and more. A wide range of coating media can be applied (paints, varnishes, printing inks, adhesives, fillers, emulsions, nail varnishes, wood stains, hot-melt adhesives and waxes), with appropriate pre-treatment of K-bars when required.
