Description
The SoftPLC S7-416 is a real-time software PLC that emulates Siemens S7 behavior on standard PC platforms. It executes S7 programs like a hardware PLC and can be used with STEP7 and the TIA Portal for project engineering and diagnostics.

Programming and access
Supported programming systems: S7 for Windows®, STEP7 and TIA Portal. Online access is available via serial, Ethernet, PROFIBUS DP or locally on the same PC. If the programming system is installed on the same machine, the SoftPLC can be reached directly; required drivers are included. With a Hilscher CIF30/50/60 PROFIBUS card the SoftPLC can be programmed or accessed via the connected PROFIBUS when drivers are configured.

Communication and multi-PLC data exchange
The SoftPLC includes a communications processor compatible with Siemens CP343/CP443. Send/Receive and Fetch/Write connections can be established between SoftPLC instances or between SoftPLC and Siemens hardware PLCs. Configuration is done using STEP7 NetPro or the TIA Portal.

The PC environment supports custom function blocks in C++ for integration of custom drivers and extended functionality. A DLL is provided for fast data exchange with other Windows applications. OEM versions are available for Linux and Windows CE to support multiple CPU architectures.

Differences between S7-315 and S7-416
The S7-315 and S7-416 differ in the number of flags, timers and counters. The S7-315 load memory is limited to 256 kByte; the S7-416 load memory is configurable and allows larger projects.
