Description

Overview
Rulon® W2 is a black PTFE-based carbon-filled polymer developed for fresh-water applications. It exhibits low friction and excellent wear characteristics (one of the lowest wear rates in fresh water) and provides good thermal dissipation to help prevent shaft distress. Its tribological properties are enhanced when wet and the material does not absorb water. It is compatible with most metal substrates and with many soft mating surfaces. Rulon® W2 is offered as a molded and precision-machined PTFE or filled PTFE composite formulation designed to control wear and friction for specific applications and environments. It is a suitable alternative to Rulon® J when superior chemical resistance is required, but it should not be used on very soft mating surfaces or where electrical insulation is needed.

Key features / benefits
  • Low coefficient of friction (typical range 0.15 – 0.30)
  • Excellent wear resistance in fresh water (one of the lowest wear rates in fresh water)
  • Good thermal dissipation to prevent shaft distress
  • Properties improve when wet; minimal moisture absorption
  • Dimensional stability in chemical environments
  • Max PV (dry/lub): 0.35 MPa·m/s

Applications
  • Pumps (including fresh-water submerged pumps)
  • Mixers and compressors
  • Appliances
  • Thrust bearings and wear bands
  • Plating tanks and hydraulic presses
  • Linear slides, pipe supports, insulators

Performance highlights (from product charts)
