Description

Overview
Locking solenoid magnets must be verified for function and safety before installation in industrial robots. This test system performs automated electrical and mechanical checks after manual loading, measuring stroke, spring force and functional current, and provides marking and handling for rejected and accepted parts.

Industry
Electrical industry

Challenge
To achieve the shortest possible test cycle, compact contacting of very small DUT connectors was required. Different cylinder positions and behaviour under varying functional currents had to be captured. Spring-force measurement was used to verify correct spring installation. Failed test pieces must be removed by the operator while passed pieces are clearly identified.

Solution
Cycle time is reduced by a rotary plate with two test stations, allowing replacement of the DUT at one station while the other is tested. Loading is manual; subsequent testing is fully automatic.
  • Plate rotation is secured by a light curtain to protect the user; no protective doors need to be opened and closed.
  • Actual testing is secured inside an enclosure.
  • Cylinder stroke measured by laser sensor for high precision.
  • Spring force measured by a force sensor.
  • Functional current adjustable via an adjustable power source (up to 2 A).
  • Passed parts are marked with a centre punch; faulty parts are signalled via software and warning lights and must be removed before further testing.
  • Removal of faulty parts is detected by a sensor to avoid mixing faulty and operable parts.

Benefits
  • Short testing time due to rotary plate
  • Fully automatic process after manual loading
  • Automatic detection of faulty-part ejection
  • Low personnel effort for testing
  • Simple, intuitive operation for trained staff

Technical data
  • High-voltage test up to 800 V between coil and enclosure
  • Spring-force testing up to 10 N via force sensor with measurement accuracy of 0.2% of final value
  • Activation for functional testing via adjustable current up to 2 A
  • Stroke capture via laser sensor with repeatability of 4 µm
