Overview
The power consumption of household appliances is a key factor for end users and a critical parameter for energy-efficiency classification. Determining the energy-efficiency rating requires comprehensive, standardised, long-term measurements that are automated, traceable and documented.

Task
Develop an automated long-term measurement system to determine energy-efficiency classes in compliance with applicable standards. Results must be clearly documented and traceable. The concept must be future-proof and meet high metrology requirements, including new measurement needs from evolving technologies (e.g. LED) and very low standby current detection.

Solution
PC-controlled test system using laptops for control and data acquisition. High-precision electrical instruments record electrical parameters. The installation is configured as a 3-phase layout to support high-power appliances; a programmable 3-phase source supplies the device under test. In addition to electrical measurements, 50 channels are provided for temperature sensing. An emergency power supply ensures uninterrupted long-term data logging. Hardware and software are customisable to customer requirements.
