Description

Product overview
The NETX 100 from Hilscher is a highly integrated network controller engineered for communication-intensive industrial applications and maximum data throughput. It integrates a 32-bit ARM 926EJ-S (200 MHz) CPU with MMU, caches, DSP and Java extensions, plus 144 KByte internal RAM and 32 KByte ROM (boot loader). External memory (SDRAM, SRAM, FLASH) is supported for Windows CE and Linux. Host connection is via a Dual-Port Memory interface that can be configured as a 16-bit extension bus for stand-alone use.

Highlights
  • Flexible high-end network controller or highly integrated single-chip solution for application and communication
  • Three configurable communication channels usable as Real-Time Ethernet interfaces or fieldbus interfaces
  • 32-bit / 200 MHz ARM 926 CPU (~200 MIPs) for controller and device standards
  • Central data switch with five data paths enabling parallel data transfer
  • Dual-port memory per channel and on-chip AD-converter
  • Interfaces: Dual-Port Memory (host), UART, USB, SPI, I²C

Protocol architecture and communication controllers
Each of the three communication channels includes a dedicated controller with ALUs and special logic units that implement protocol functionality via microcode. Two channels include an integrated Ethernet PHY. The xMAC (Medium Access Controller) manages bus access and byte-level encoding/decoding while the xPEC (Protocol Execution Controller) assembles packets and controls telegram traffic. Data exchange with ARM memory is performed block-by-block via DMA; alternatively channels can use a dual-port memory for status information or local process data. The intelligent communication ALUs allow implementation and independent synchronization of multiple protocols regardless of CPU reaction time.
