Description

Overview
Precision cut-off wheels with a thin disc profile for minimal material loss and accurate sectioning of sensitive or small specimens. QPREP wheels are offered with aluminum oxide (Al2O3), silicon carbide (SiC), diamond and CBN abrasives in electroplated, resin-bonded, rubber-bonded or bronze-bonded constructions, tailored for metallographic sample preparation and component segmentation.

Benefits
  • Reduced material removal due to thin wheel thickness
  • Enables cutting close to target surfaces and features
  • Suitable for small, delicate and very brittle specimens

Recommended applications
  • Target and defect preparation in metallography
  • Segmentation of electronic components
  • Preparing specimens for thin sectioning and analysis

Silicon carbide precision cut-off wheels (QPREP)
  • Good surface finish and cutting precision
  • High repeatability for non‑ferrous materials
  • Optimal for soft to medium-hard non-ferrous metals and alloys (e.g. copper, aluminum, brass) and for demanding materials such as titanium

Aluminum oxide precision cut-off wheels (QPREP)
  • Dense disc structure for extended service life
  • Lower wheel wear and reduced heat transfer to the specimen
  • Available in coarse and fine grain: coarse for faster cuts on low‑hardness materials, fine for smooth, precise cuts on harder materials
  • Recommended for a broad range of ferrous materials, including alloyed and nitrided steels; suitable for cutting mounted samples

Diamond precision cut-off wheels (QPREP)
  • Diamond abrasive for cutting very hard materials (e.g. ceramics) without smearing
  • Typically bronze-bonded; diamond edge areas can be dressed to restore cutting performance
  • Available in different diamond concentrations (e.g. LC/HC) to match material toughness and optimise disc life

CBN precision cut-off wheels (QPREP)
  • CBN abrasive in bronze bond for effective cutting of hard ferrous and tough materials
  • Well suited to composites, ductile and high‑strength ferrous alloys
  • Edge dressing restores and maintains peak cutting performance

Saw blade cut-off wheel
  • Designed for materials prone to smearing and for non-metallic materials
  • Lower heat generation due to single-tooth engagement
  • No abrasive bonding—reduced dust and odor
  • Recommended for separation of plastics, polymers and carbon-fibre reinforced polymers (CFRP)

Technical specifications
  • Abrasive options: Aluminum oxide (Al2O3), Silicon carbide (SiC), Diamond, Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN)
  • Bond types: Electroplated, Resin bonded, Rubber bonded, Bronze bonded
  • Aluminum oxide grain options: fine and coarse
  • Diamond and CBN variants: available in different concentrations (e.g. LC/HC) to suit material toughness
  • Edge dressing capability for diamond and CBN to restore cutting performance
  • Thin wheel geometry for minimal material loss and high cutting accuracy
  • Intended applications: metallographic sample preparation, electronics segmentation, geology/mineralogy, cutting of ferrous and non‑ferrous materials, composites and ceramics
