Product overviewThe 3S-WS-I-P is a plastic cup anemometer with analog output (4–20 mA) designed for compact PV met stations, small weather stations and simple industrial monitoring where horizontal wind speed measurement is required without a heavy metal unit. Supplied with mounting kit and 3 m LIYYC11Y PUR UV- and weather-resistant cable. Optional heating kit available for icing-prone sites.
Measurement principleThe sensor measures horizontal wind speed independently of wind direction. A rotating magnet on the cups actuates a reed switch; pulse frequency is proportional to rotation speed and thus to wind speed.

What it measures and why it is usefulThe 3S-WS-I-P provides reliable horizontal wind speed (m/s) data. In PV monitoring and small meteorological stations wind speed helps to:
- assess module cooling and its impact on temperature and energy yield,
- support event reporting during high-wind or gust conditions,
- enrich performance analysis alongside POA irradiance and module temperature.
Why choose this sensorThis plastic analog model is suited when an economical, lightweight sensor with universal 4–20 mA compatibility is needed for multi-site standard met stations and simple industrial or agricultural monitoring. It is easy to replace across fleets and integrates with dataloggers, PLCs and SCADA systems with analog inputs.
How it worksThe three cups rotate in the wind. A magnet on the rotor triggers a reed switch each revolution; the pulse frequency is converted by the internal transducer to a proportional 4–20 mA current loop signal. The receiving datalogger or PLC converts current to wind speed using the defined calibration.
Typical applications- Utility, commercial & industrial and rooftop PV plants for IEC 61724-1 monitoring,
- Compact weather stations and environmental networks,
- Industrial and agricultural sites requiring basic analog wind speed measurement.
