Description

Overview
The plastic wind direction sensor is an essential component of weather measurement stations and plays a critical role in environmental condition analysis. Featuring an analog output (0–3.3 V), the 3S-WD-P provides precise wind direction data for integration with SCADA, PLCs and dataloggers. Wind direction measurement supports IEC 61724-1:2021 analyses such as module temperature correlations and wind-related warranty evaluations.

Key features
  • Lightweight construction compatible with outdoor installations and easy handling.
  • Analog output ensures direct connection to inverters, dataloggers and SCADA systems.
  • Plug-and-play design for fast installation and reduced wiring errors.
  • UV-resistant ASA housing and IP54 protection for long-term outdoor exposure (IP67 optional).
  • High directional accuracy of ±1% for reliable wind assessment.

How it works
The vane rotates with wind direction; an internal Hall effect position sensor converts the vane angle into an electrical signal which is translated into an analog voltage (0–3.3 V) for transmission to data receivers or control systems.

Applications
  • Utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) plants
  • Hybrid solar-wind power installations
  • Remote environmental monitoring stations
  • Agricultural PV installations requiring climate data

Installation and maintenance
Installation: Mount the sensor at a height free from obstructions (buildings, trees) and align the north mark with a compass. Support options include pipe or ground mounting; the sensor is delivered with three corner head bolts. Maintenance: Low-maintenance design due to plastic housing; clean regularly in dusty or polluted environments and inspect systems at least annually in line with IEC 61724-1:2021.
