Description

Product Summary
A latching DC solenoid WL1037 is a bistable electromagnetic actuator that uses internal permanent magnets to retain the plunger position without continuous power. It switches between two stable states (extended and retracted) via short DC pulses and consumes energy only during transitions.

Main Characteristics
  • Bistable (latching) operation: retains position without holding current.
  • Pulse-driven actuation: activation by short pulses (milliseconds).
  • Zero continuous current when latched.
  • Push-pull working model with compact dimensions.
  • Available voltages: 3 V, 5 V, 12 V, 24 V, 48 V DC (WL1037 rated 24 V).
  • Stroke range typically 2–15 mm; WL1037 standard 10 mm (customizable).
  • Holding force and duty depend on model; WL1037 example: 2.6 N holding force.
  • Mounting options: screw stud, bracket or custom fixtures; enclosure: open/tubular/enclosed (IP options).

Mechanism
The WL1037 combines coil-generated flux and a permanent magnet. A short DC pulse overcomes the magnet to move the plunger; once positioned the permanent magnet closes the flux path and holds the plunger without coil current. Reversing polarity (single-coil) or energizing the opposite coil (dual-coil) releases the latch. Transition times are typically in the millisecond range.

Push-Pull vs Latching (conceptual differences)
  • Push-Pull: requires continuous power to hold position; higher continuous heat generation.
  • Latching DC: uses short pulses and permanent magnets to hold position without continuous power; minimal idle heat but requires bipolar control for single-coil designs or dual-coil drive signals.

Operation and Thermal Notes
Set (latch) with Pulse 1; reset (unlatch) with Pulse 2 or reversed polarity. Short pulse operation limits heat. Continuous excitation (as in push-pull designs) increases thermal stress and can shorten service life; follow recommended pulse widths and duty cycles.

Typical Applications
  • Smart locks, electronic deadbolts, cabinet locks
  • Battery-powered equipment (smart meters, remote valves)
  • Vending and ticketing machines
  • Battery disconnects, pack contactors, parking brakes
  • Portable medical devices requiring low idle power
  • Industrial automation: dampers, diverters, pilot valves
  • Agricultural and solar-powered devices (gates, timers)

Advantages and Drawbacks
  • Advantages: negligible holding current when latched, low idle heat, position retention on power loss, compact form factor.
  • Drawbacks: requires bipolar pulse control (or dual-coil drive), not inherently fail-safe on power loss unless designed so, sensitivity to pulse energy and duration, potential need for position sensing after cycles.

Troubleshooting (summary)
  • Safety: de-energize before inspection and check for visible damage or debris.
  • Electrical: verify supply voltage, pulse amplitude and duration, measure coil resistance, check fuses and wiring.
  • Control: confirm correct polarity, pulse timing and driver capability (H-bridge or dual-coil driver).
  • Mechanical: inspect plunger bore, remove burrs, apply appropriate dry lubrication if specified, check for binding.
  • Latching-specific: check magnet strength, air gap, and set/reset pulse energy.

Selection and Ordering Tips
  • Specify required stroke and holding force against real load; consult force-vs-stroke data.
  • Match coil voltage to the power source and ensure pulse current capability (example: 1.5 A at 12 V for ~80 ms).
  • Choose single- or dual-coil based on driver availability.
  • Consider environment (temperature, IP rating, corrosion) and select appropriate enclosure.
  • Add position sensing (limit switch or Hall sensor) if controller must confirm latched state.
  • Verify mounting dimensions and tolerances before integration.
  • Ordering: contact Weilong Technology for lead time, samples, MOQ and certificate requirements.
