Taber's Multi-Finger Scratch / Mar Tester is based on the popular "Ford 5-Finger Scratch and Mar Tester" specified in automotive test requirements. It is typically used to measure the relative resistance or susceptibility of a plastic surface to scratching, marring, gouging, scraping and other similar physical damage. Test samples are mounted to a pneumatically driven, moveable sled which drives the sample at a fixed rate of speed under five (5) scratch pins. A gantry supports the five independent splined-fingers which provide a constant, vertical load on interchangeable scratch pins. Each instrument includes a set of five 1mm hemispherical scratch and 7mm hemispherical mar tools along with a nine piece weight set ranging from a 2N to 20N load (optional weights are also available).

The Taber Shear / Scratch Tester is portable instrument is used to evaluate a material's or coating's resistance to shearing, scratching, gouging, marring, scraping or engraving. Specimens (up to 1/2" thick by 4" square) are affixed to a turntable and then a precision cutting tool, which is attached to a balanced and calibrated scale beam, is placed on the specimen. As the turntable rotates the specimen, the cutting tool will scratch or shear the specimen surface. A sliding weight adjusts the load applied on the scratch tool from 0 - 1000g to determine the point of failure. Optional interchangeable scratch tools include a conical diamond tool; diamond scratch tool; and 1.0 mm hemisphere scratch tip. Using the S-20 tungsten carbide tool (contour shear tool), Taber's Shear / Scratch Tester can also be used to evaluate coating adhesion on a variety of materials.

TMS LIGHTWEIGHT SHEAR BLADE SET
Food Technology Corporation’s TMS shear blade set has been designed to replicate the specification of the original Warner-Bratzler blade. The test set should be used in conjunction with the TMS standard fixture table on the TMS-Pro or TMS-Console texture analyzers to allow blades to pass completely through samples during shear testing.
Shear blades provide an excellent indication of a cross sectional characteristics. Natural variation
and irregularities present are essentially averaged and accommodated by the blades geometry.
A single blade cuts through the sample creating a combination of shearing, tearing and compression forces. Stress initiates in compression mode until the sample yields and the blades starts to cut into the sample.
Applications include;
• Hardness of nougat bars
• Crumb hardness in fruited cakes
• Stalk softening in frozen broccoli florets
• Ripening changes as indicated by softness in bananas
• Slicing hardness of hard cheeses
• Shear toughness of chicken breast
The test set comprises of a blade holder with 2 locking screws. A central slot allows free movement of the blade to limit friction during analysis. Each blade is manufactured from stainless steel, reversible and 1mm thick. The first blade has a plane flat bottom and a 20mm notched end. The second has a 44mm and a 32mm inverted “V” with small central cut out. The stainless steel blades travel through 35mm high guide arms positioned 50mm apart into a 1.4mm wide slot at the base – these dimensions govern the size of samples used in assembly.

Bulge/FLC Tester, Model 161
It is possible to test specimens up to a size of 400 x 650 mm when conducting the hydraulic deep-drawing test with the Bulge/FLC tester: In addition to the actual hydraulic forming process the construction of this machine also allows the use of ball punches with a diameter up to 200 mm. The maximum drawing force is 1,000 kN. To guarantee an exact reading of the required drawing force even in case of lower forces, they are divided in two measuring ranges. At specimen failure the test can be stopped both manually or automatically. The capture and the evaluation of the measuring points on the surface of the dome can be effected by an optical measuring device during the drawing process. In the basic version the height of the bulge is detected by means of a measuring probe placed on top, the maximum path measured being 100 mm, and displayed digitally.

Universal Sheet Metal Testing Machine for Research, Development and
In-process Testing, Model 146-60/100
The special feature of this testing machines is the increased drawing speed of the drawing punch which, in addition to the normal drawing speed range of 0 - 1,200 mm/min can be adjusted, in an infinitely variable manner and independent of load, up to 3,000 mm/min. This is achieved by using a separate oil circuit, fed by a pump with high volumetric displacement. Contrary to the high speed attachment based on a nitrogen accumulator, here a constant drawing speed behaviour is guaranteed over the total displacement of 150 mm. As to the technical design and the options available, including PC control and proportional valve technique, this machines are similar to Models 145. The basic version of the machines includes an oil/water cooling and have a power consumption of 45 kW.

The Taber V-5 Stiffness Tester incorporates a precision pendulum weighing system to measure the stiffness, rigidity (resistance to bending) and resiliency of flexible materials. Nine (9) distinct ranges permit testing of materials that are extremely lightweight and flexible to items that are very rigid. The instrument outputs the moment load applied to the test specimen in TABER Stiffness Units (g • cm). Test specimens are mounted on the Stiffness Tester using the specimen clamp. Located on the pendulum, the lower faces of the specimen clamp jaws are exactly on the center of rotation to ensure a constant test length and deflection angle. Force is applied to the lower end of the specimen by a pair of rollers, which are attached to a driving disc located directly behind the pendulum. As the driving disc rotates, the rollers push against the test specimen and deflect it from its vertical position. In response, the pendulum applies increasing torque to the specimen as it deflects further from its original position. The test point reading occurs when the pendulum mark aligns with the appropriate driving disc mark (7 ½° or 15°), which points to the stiffness reading on the dial plate. Available as a basic unit (Model 150-B) or automatic tester (Model 150-E).
