Measurement principle and descriptionThe measurement is based on magnetic adhesion-force measurement. The adhesion force depends on the distance between a permanent magnet and the steel substrate, which corresponds to the thickness of the non-magnetic coating. A measuring spring applies a counterforce to lift the magnet; the applied force or the torsion angle of a torsion spring is directly proportional to the coating thickness. The method is suitable for nickel plating on copper, aluminium and other non-ferrous metals when applied on steel substrates.
