Overview
The PAINT BORER TCG is a coating thickness gauge designed for the precise measurement of thick layers on non-metallic substrates. It is available in two evaluation variants: an analog version using an illuminated magnifier with scale and a digital version using the WedgeSoft X software for image-based evaluation.
Application and purpose
The instrument is intended for measuring thick layers that are difficult to assess non-destructively on substrates such as concrete, plaster, screed, wood and plastic. The destructive wedge-cut / drilling method provides a simple and cost-effective alternative to complex non-destructive calibration procedures.
Principle and operation
The measuring principle follows the standardised wedge-cut method: the specimen is drilled at a defined angle and the obliquely drilled layer is evaluated. The device is supplied with a special drill (shank diameter 10 mm) suitable for common drilling machines. Drill at low speed and as vertically as possible until the substrate becomes visible; avoid deep drilling into mineral substrates. Evaluation is either manual via the illuminated magnifier (analog) or by software (digital).
Evaluation options
Two evaluation options are available:
PAINT BORER TCG analog: illuminated magnifier with scale (0.1 mm resolution / 75 µm per graduation) for manual reading.
PAINT BORER TCG digital: WedgeSoft X software (activated via security dongle) for importing images from a digital microscope, smartphone or tablet; supports camera scale factor input or a reference scale in the image and can measure up to 6 layers simultaneously.
