The Wet film thickness gauge Model 433 is a handheld, mechanical comb-type instrument for rapidly measuring wet coating thickness up to 1500 µm, enabling immediate corrective action on freshly applied coatings and estimation of resulting dry film thickness.

Overview
Film thickness determines appearance, protective performance and service life of coatings. Insufficient thickness reduces protection and hiding power; excessive thickness increases material cost and can affect drying. A mechanical wet film thickness gauge allows fast on-site verification to ensure uniform application and compliance with specifications.

Application
Designed for quick checks of newly applied wet coatings on any substrate (glass, wood, metal, plastic) to calculate or verify expected dry film thickness and to allow immediate corrective actions in production or maintenance workflows.

Test principle
The square stainless-steel measuring blade has serrated teeth ground on all sides at progressively increasing distances from the substrate; engraved figures indicate the distance in µm. After placing the blade on the coated surface and performing a short combing movement, the wet film thickness is read at the first wetted tooth.

• 5 - 100 μm (5 μm scale division)
• 100 - 300 μm (10 μm scale division)
• 300 - 700 μm (20 μm scale division)
• 700 - 1500 μm (40 μm scale division)

Measuring accuracy

• Maximum deviation: 3 μm (5 - 55 μm) or 5% of nominal value (60 - 1500 μm).
• Typical deviation: less than 3 μm over the entire scale range.

Certifiable for QA systems
Optionally (at extra charge) the Model 433 can be supplied with a manufacturer's test certificate M to DIN 55 350 Part 18, documenting the measured values determined in the ERICHSEN testing laboratory.
