DescriptionThe coulometric (anodic de‑plating) method for coating thickness measurement on steel, non-ferrous metals and insulating substrates. Suitable for single and multilayer systems (e.g. Ni on steel, Zn on steel, Sn on Cu, Ag on Cu, Cu on epoxy). GalvanoTest delivers exact layer thickness values while leaving the substrate intact. The instrument is microprocessor‑based, easy to operate and requires only minimal training.
Measuring principleBased on Faraday’s law, GalvanoTest electrolytically dissolves a precisely defined area of the coating. A measuring cell, filled with an electrolyte chosen for the coating/substrate combination, is placed on the sample and sealed by a gasket (examples: 8 mm2, 4 mm2). A controlled current causes removal of the coating; a characteristic voltage change stops the process and the thickness is displayed in μm or mils.
DesignMeasuring cellCells are available for flat or curved surfaces (curvature radius down to 3 mm) and for very small areas. The 2000 model can be supplied with an air pulsator to ensure electrolyte circulation. An electrolyte cup is available for dipping wires and small parts; it is compatible with both models.
StandAdjustable stand for precise positioning of the measuring cell on the sample. The electrolyte distributor pump can be mounted on the stand or on the gauge depending on the configuration.
Processing unitMicroprocessor‑based processing unit with interactive LCD and touchpad. Measurement programs can be entered, results visualized on the alphanumeric display and exported via interfaces to PC, MiniPrint data printer or Y‑T recorder. The characteristic voltage curve can be printed for traceable analysis.
Choosing GalvanoTest 2000 or 3000?GalvanoTest 2000 is the baseline instrument for a wide range of coating/substrate combinations and multilayer measurements. GalvanoTest 3000 adds an integrated electrolyte pump in the stand, quick‑change measuring cells for different electrolytes and automatic electrolyte filling/emptying to reduce electrolyte consumption. The 3000 supports very small measurement areas down to 0.25 mm2.
