Description

Product summary
BSTFLEX removable basket strainer insulation jackets are custom-made thermal covers for simplex and duplex strainers in hot or temperature-controlled piping systems. Separate body and lid panels preserve access to cover bolts, clamps, vents, drains, changeover mechanisms and the vertical clearance needed to remove and clean the basket.

Why use removable basket strainer jackets
Basket strainers have a large body and a removable lid that must be opened for screen cleaning. On a heated line, the exposed housing can interrupt an otherwise continuous insulation system. Permanent insulation around the lid and fasteners makes routine maintenance difficult and is often damaged when the basket is removed. BSTFLEX jackets are manufactured around actual equipment dimensions and separate the housing, lid, flanges, drain and vent into practical sections to allow access without cutting away surrounding insulation.

Product Overview (table)
Design item — Available approach — Details needed for quotation
Strainer configuration — Simplex, duplex or custom multi-chamber unit — Manufacturer drawing, model and operating arrangement
Housing section — One-piece wrap or several numbered body panels — Body diameter, height, shape and connected nozzles
Lid section — Independent top cover with bolt, clamp or hinge clearances — Lid diameter, height, fastening method and opening direction
Drain and vent — Exposed connection, reinforced cutout or separate collar — Connection size, valve projection and operating clearance
Thermal construction — Custom fabric, core, thickness and closure system — Surface temperature, environment and required result

Simplex Basket Strainer Covers
A simplex strainer contains one working basket. The insulation jacket can often be divided into a body wrap and a separate lid cover so the upper panel can be removed first, leaving the housing panel in place until additional access is needed. Lid fastenings (bolts, swing bolts, clamp bands, hinges) and lifting/handle features must be considered in the pattern and clearances.

Duplex Basket Strainer Covers
A duplex strainer has two basket chambers and a changeover arrangement. Each chamber can have independently removable body and lid sections so maintenance on one basket does not require stripping the complete assembly. Changeover handles, gear operators, valve stems and position indicators must remain free to move and be considered in panel layout and labelling.

Industries and piping services (typical applications)
  • Steam and condensate systems
  • Industrial hot-water circulation
  • Thermal-oil systems
  • Process-water and utility lines
  • Chemical processing equipment
  • Food and beverage utility systems
  • Marine and engine-room piping
  • Power-generation auxiliary systems
  • Cold or chilled-fluid lines with a suitable condensation-control design

Three-layer thermal construction
The typical jacket combines an inner liner, a flexible insulation core and an outer protective layer. Inner liners can be fiberglass, silica or other high-temperature fabrics with reinforcement around high-wear areas. Insulation cores include flexible fiberglass, silica and other materials; core type and thickness depend on thermal targets and allowable panel weight. Outer layers include silicone-coated fiberglass, PTFE-coated fabric, aluminized fabric or uncoated high-temperature textiles, chosen for handling, moisture and chemical resistance.

Closures and hardware
D-ring straps, buckles, lacing hooks, wire springs, hook-and-loop closures and other fasteners may be used where temperature and environment permit. Fasteners are positioned for removal without dismantling adjacent pipe insulation or reaching across hot components.

Cold-service and condensation considerations
Cold-service jackets require designs that prevent vapor entry at seams, closures and nozzle joints. Provide fluid and ambient temperatures, relative humidity and existing vapor-barrier details to confirm an appropriate construction.

Vents, drains and instruments
Vents, drains, differential-pressure connections, gauges or sampling points can remain exposed, pass through reinforced openings or receive separate small covers. Drain valves and small tubing should not support the jacket weight; provide handle/stem dimensions and operating space.

Lid access and basket removal clearance
The design must allow the required vertical or sideways removal path for the basket and avoid interference from lid hardware, hinges, lifting devices or surrounding structures. Record any platforms, trays or overhead obstructions that affect clearance.

Dimensions needed for manufacturing
  • Identify the strainer as simplex or duplex and provide its model.
  • Record inlet and outlet pipe size, connection type and orientation.
  • Measure each housing diameter, overall height and lower-body shape.
  • Measure lid diameter, height, flange thickness and insulation clearance.
  • Locate bolts, swing bolts, clamps, hinges, lifting eyes and handles.
  • Record vent, drain, gauge and differential-pressure connections.
  • For duplex units, measure the changeover handle/stem/gearbox envelope.
  • State the vertical or sideways space required to withdraw each basket.
  • Provide adjacent pipe-insulation diameter and termination position.
  • Mark all areas that must remain visible, movable or immediately accessible.

Installation and maintenance
Panels should be labelled for location and sequence. Fit lower housing panels without loading drains or instruments, install connection and flange sections where supplied, place the independent lid panel and close fasteners evenly, and verify access to vents, drains and changeover controls. During service, remove panels in documented order, keep them dry and clean, inspect for cuts, contamination, wet core, compressed insulation and damaged closures before reuse.

Safety and limitations
This jacket is an external passive insulation product—not a pressure component, lid seal, leak-containment device, spill barrier, fire-protection system or machinery guard. It must not obstruct vents, drains, gauges, changeover mechanisms, required labels or safe basket removal. Do not use insulation to hide leaks or abnormal hot spots; the equipment owner remains responsible for pressure safety and process compatibility.
