OverviewBSTFLEX removable pipe insulation jackets are flexible, reusable thermal covers engineered for straight industrial pipe sections that require routine access. Sections are custom-fabricated to match pipe OD, insulated length, operating temperature and installation clearance, with materials and closures selected for the service environment.
Designed for Straight Industrial Pipe SectionsThese jackets are intended for straight runs where adjacent fittings (flanges, pumps, valves, elbows, tees, reducers) use dedicated removable covers for accurate fit and simplified replacement ordering.
Common Applications- Steam distribution and condensate return lines
- Thermal oil and hot-oil piping
- Heated chemical and process pipelines
- Boiler and heat-exchanger connections
- Power-generation utility piping
- Refinery and petrochemical pipe systems
- Food & beverage processing lines
- Marine engine-room piping
- OEM machinery and skid-mounted pipework
- Electrically or steam-traced industrial pipes
Available Jacket Configurations- Single Straight Pipe Jacket: One-piece wraparound with longitudinal closure for defined pipe lengths where the jacket lifts away without interference.
- Modular Pipe Insulation Sections: Longer runs divided into numbered sections; overlapping ends reduce gaps between adjoining jackets.
- Inspection and Weld Access Jacket: Short removable jackets placed over welds, inspection points or test locations to preserve surrounding permanent insulation.
- Heat‑Traced Pipe Jacket: Patterned to accommodate approved heat-tracing cables or steam tracing and connection boxes; tracing details required before manufacture.
- Outdoor Pipe Insulation Jacket: Weather-resistant outer fabrics, sealed seams and closure orientation designed to limit water ingress.
Material and Construction Options- Outer jacket: Silicone-coated fiberglass, PTFE-coated fiberglass, aluminized fiberglass or other high-temperature coated fabrics — selected for weather, oil, moisture and abrasion resistance.
- Thermal core: Fiberglass needle mat, silica needle mat, ceramic fiber or aerogel-based insulation — selected for pipe temperature, thermal target and permitted thickness.
- Hot-face liner: Fiberglass cloth, silica fabric, stainless steel foil or mesh — selected for contact temperature, vibration and wear.
- Fastening system: D-rings & straps, hooks & lacing wire, springs, buckles or other reusable closures — selected for temperature, access space and removal frequency.
- Internal reinforcement: Quilting pins, stainless-steel mesh, reinforced seams and local wear layers — chosen for section length and handling.
Manufacturing Information Required- Bare pipe outside diameter (OD)
- Required insulated length per section
- Operating temperature and maximum short-term exposure
- Required insulation thickness or surface-temperature target
- OD of adjacent permanent insulation (if present)
- Position of welds, clamps, supports, tags and instruments
- Details of electrical or steam tracing
- Pipe orientation: horizontal, vertical or inclined
- Available clearance for closures and jacket removal
- Service environment: indoor, outdoor, washdown, oily or chemically exposed
- Quantity, section numbering and packaging requirements
Closure and Seam PositionLongitudinal closures should remain visible and reachable after installation and be oriented to avoid liquid or rain collection. Closure choice depends on exposure temperature, vibration, access frequency and site practices.
Installation- Confirm the line is safe to approach under plant procedures.
- Ensure the pipe surface is free from active leaks and conditions that could damage the insulation.
- Match jacket identification to the correct pipe section.
- Position the jacket with the liner facing the pipe and the closure oriented as specified.
- Wrap evenly without twisting the insulation core and engage closures progressively.
- Check end overlaps, adjoining covers and clearances for instruments and moving parts.
Removable Jacket vs Wrap vs Permanent Insulation- Removable pipe insulation jacket: Suited to industrial pipe sections requiring repeated access; complete sections can be removed and reinstalled.
- Insulation wrap or tape: Suited to small pipework or temporary work; may need replacement after service.
- Rigid or conventional insulation: Suited to long permanent runs; typically cut or rebuilt to access.
- Metal jacketing: Protects conventional insulation from weather and mechanical damage; normally part of a separate rigid system.
Hot, Cold and Freeze-Service ConsiderationsHot-service constructions reduce heat loss and accessible surface temperature while allowing access. Cold-service requires continuous, sealed vapor retarders to control condensation; chilled and cryogenic systems need specific vapor-sealing review. Freeze-exposed pipes may require designed heat tracing in addition to insulation.
Inspection and ReuseStore removed jackets on a clean, dry surface and inspect outer cover, liner, seams, fasteners and core before reuse. Discard jackets that are wet, compressed or chemically contaminated. Inspect pipe surfaces for leaks and corrosion prior to reinstallation.
OEM and Project SupplyJackets can be supplied as prototypes, replacement sections or repeat production from pipe schedules, drawings, site measurements, templates or approved samples. Options include equipment numbers, section labels, installation-direction markings, special packaging and project-specific material combinations.
