Product overviewThe RNJLP (Rack & Panel Low profile) connector is a low-profile, lightweight rack & panel blind-mate connector derived from the 38999 Series (Series III). It provides realignment capability on three axes (axial, angular and longitudinal), EMI shielding with grounding fingers ensuring shielding before contact mating, and a reinforced floating plug membrane for high pressure resistance and 100% scoop-proof contact protection.
Key features- Shorter distance between panels compared to RNJ (derived from RNJ - HE308 Rack & Panel connector)
- 8 shell sizes available (from size 11 to 25)
- Realignment capability on 3 axes (axial, angular and longitudinal)
- Quick and easy connection with 100% scoop-proof design
- Multiple materials and platings available, with RoHS & REACH compliant options
- Plug version offers approximately 20% weight saving vs standard RNJ
Applications- Battlefield communications / C5ISR
- Ground vehicles
- Military avionics
- Commercial aircraft
- Missiles
- Space
Product benefits- Multiple receptacle and plug body styles (square flange, jam nut, stand-off, integrated backshells)
- Blind-mate connection between a rack and panel without manual coupling/uncoupling
- Uses same contacts and inserts as 38999 Series III (M39029 / MIL-DTL-38999 compatible)
- Plug membrane protected by a metallic cap
- Compatible with M85049 backshells for 38999 Series III
Materials & platings- Aluminum options: Olive Drab Cadmium, Black Zinc Nickel, Nickel plated
- Stainless steel options: passivated (e.g., 303 or 316L)
- Available in RoHS-compliant versions
Contacts types & terminations- More than 80 contact arrangements
- Contact sizes from 23 HD to 4
- Signal, power and high-speed versions supported (coax, twinax, quadrax, Octomax, etc.)
- Optical termini options available
- Terminations: crimp and PCB tails (PC tails available but not recommended on RNJ/RNJLP plugs unless soldering on flex)
- Tails available in gold and tinned versions
Environmental characteristics- 500 mating cycles
- Operating temperature range approximately -65°C to +175°C (depending on configuration)
- Corrosion resistance: from 48 to 500 hours depending on material & plating
- Ingress protection: IPX7 when mated and fully cabled
Electrical characteristics- Insulation resistance at ambient: 10^5 MΩ
- Contact current ratings from 3 A up to 100 A depending on contact type and size
Additional descriptionThe RNJLP is designed to reduce panel-to-panel distance (panel distances from about 36 mm down to 7.3 mm depending on shell type) while retaining blind-mate and floatability features. It accepts M39029 / MIL-DTL-38999 Series III compatible contacts and inserts and is suited to harsh-environment applications where weight, realignment and EMI shielding are critical.
