Usage and thermal considerations
Modern COM Express modules concentrate high performance in compact dimensions, generating significant heat. The operating temperature indicated in the module/board technical specifications defines the temperature range in which all parts of the heat spreader/heat sink must remain for SECO to guarantee functionality; this is not necessarily the allowable environmental temperature. The heat spreader is not intended as a standalone guaranteed cooling system and should be used to transfer heat to other dissipation components (additional heat sinks, fans, heat pipes). Customers are responsible for designing and implementing an application-specific cooling solution based on processor workload, enclosure design and airflow/thermal analysis to ensure temperatures remain within the specified range.
