Description

Overview
Thawing cryovials with a water bath introduces contamination risk, operator variability and guesswork. Macaroni Thaw provides a controlled, automated, water-free thaw: insert a vial and the device runs an automatic cycle. Typical thaw time is under 3 minutes. The unit detects thaw completion automatically and signals with a clear LED pattern and audio alert. Temperature is maintained at or below 37°C to protect heat-sensitive cell types. Designed for professional laboratory use, Macaroni Thaw standardises and automates the thawing step across operators. Designed and manufactured by Grant Instruments in the UK.

Key Features
  • Water-free thawing replacing a 37°C water bath with a dry, automated process (no bath maintenance or decontamination)
  • Consistent, repeatable results via automated thaw detection that removes operator-to-operator variability
  • Low contamination risk due to a dry, sealed-vial workflow
  • Patent-pending thaw detection technology with a thaw profile equivalent to a 37°C water bath heating rate
  • Fast hands-free operation: typical thaw under 3 minutes with automatic vial detection to start the cycle
  • At-a-glance LED status: 12-LED clockface plus central status LED showing warm-up, thaw progress and completion
  • Adjustable thaw threshold: six levels above and below the default to suit vial type, cryoprotectant and fill volume
  • Auto sleep mode for low-power standby after 60 minutes idle
  • Compact benchtop footprint: 19 x 12 x 7.5 cm; weight 0.8 kg (without power supply)

Applications
  • Routine thawing of cryopreserved cells in cell culture and tissue culture workflows
  • Biobanks and biorepositories requiring standardised, traceable thaw steps
  • Cell and gene therapy and stem cell research where thaw consistency affects viability (including iPSCs and organoids)
  • Pharmaceutical, biotech and CRO laboratories standardising cryopreservation across operators
  • Academic and clinical research labs replacing shared water baths to reduce contamination risk
