Product overview
The LTH 1K5-12/48-3U4 is a boost (step-up) DC-DC power supply that converts a 12Vdc input (10.5-16V operating range) to a stable, regulated 48Vdc at 30A. The unit is designed for 1500W loads and two or more units may be parallel connected for higher output power. It is suitable for a broad range of 12Vdc-to-48Vdc industrial applications including automotive systems (boosting vehicle 12V battery to 48V auxiliary systems), solar systems and telecommunications systems.

Design and redundancy
The converter is built with four LTH 65F internal modules connected in parallel via redundancy diodes. This modular construction provides inherent redundancy: the failure of one internal module only causes approximately a 25% drop in output power while the unit remains operational. The design uses a low component count, components with established reliability and large design headroom to contribute to long operating life.

Protection, EMC and safety
Comprehensive electronic protection includes 1500Vdc input/output isolation, inrush current limiting, reverse polarity protection, output current limiting and short-circuit protection. Input and output filtering contribute to low output ripple and noise. The input meets the requirements for EN55032 Class A with wide margins; Class B is available as an option. The converter is designed for compliance with EN62368-1 and equivalent safety standards. Conformal coating provides protection against humidity and airborne contaminants.

Cooling, environment and mechanical
Cooling is provided by high-quality built-in fans enabling operation over a -20°C to +50°C temperature range for full specification with no de-rating. Wider temperature ranges are available on request. The chassis is ruggedly constructed (132 x 244 x 381 mm) to withstand high levels of shock and vibration to IEC 61373 Cat 1 A & B.
