OverviewThe BBDM-68KR5M is a 68 kHz air ultrasonic distance transducer for proximity detection and ranging with a reference range of 0.3-5 m, a -3 dB half-power angle of 8° ±10%, IP68 protection and a 5 m cable. It is intended for short-range sensing layouts in industrial automation and measurement applications.

Performance and usage notesEcho performance depends on target size, surface finish, orientation and movement. Guards, rails or adjacent machine parts within the acoustic path can create unwanted echoes. For compact level measurement, the 0.3 m near limit and the 8° half-power angle determine the acoustic field relative to vessel openings and internal structures. Surface condition and incidence angle can reduce or alter the returned echo.
Interface and environmental requirementsThe drive and receive circuitry must accommodate the specified minimum impedance of 250 Ω and capacitance of 2,500 pF at 1 kHz. Peak drive voltage must remain below <1,000 Vpp. The transducer is supplied with a 5 m cable. Operating temperature range: -40 to +80 °C. Maximum pressure: up to 3 kgf (0.3 MPa). Protection rating: IP68.
