Description

Overview
The BBDM-2MR2M is an externally mounted ultrasonic transducer for non-contact liquid level detection through tank walls. With a 2 MHz center frequency and a recommended measuring range of 0.03–2 m, it is suited to fuel and oil tanks, sealed vessels, vehicle and machinery tanks, and corrosive liquid applications where through-wall sensing is required.

Narrow-beam performance
The transducer has a -3 dB half-power angle of 2.4° ±10%. The narrow acoustic beam increases sensitivity to alignment, wall thickness, curvature and coupling; small angular or contact deviations can displace the acoustic path from the liquid interface and affect measurement accuracy.

Available material and temperature configurations
Two housing options are offered and must be ordered as separate configurations: 2A12 aluminum alloy with PI (operating temperature -40 to +80 °C) and a nylon housing option (operating temperature -20 to +80 °C). Confirm the selected housing and its temperature rating when ordering; do not mix ranges between options.

Coupling and electronics
Before specifying installation and drive electronics, confirm tank-wall material, wall thickness, curvature and coatings, and select an appropriate coupling method for the actual liquid and sensing path. The 10-ohm minimum impedance presents a different electrical load than higher-impedance tank transducers; drive circuitry must remain below 150 Vpp. Confirm the termination and definition of the 5 m + 1 m cable arrangement with the project requirements.
